21.1 Sales vs Target Tracker
The ask. Ravindra Bagale, the regional head, wants a one-page tracker every month: each city lead's sales against target, the gap in rupees, a Hit / Close / Miss status and a rank. It goes to the Monday review.
Sheet Sales, A1:D6 (November, fictional):
| A: City lead | B: City | C: Target (₹) | D: Actual (₹) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shraddha Bagale | Pune | 2,50,000 | 2,71,500 |
| Shahrukh | Nashik | 1,80,000 | 1,66,800 |
| Zoya | Nagpur | 1,60,000 | 1,49,200 |
| Amir | Kolhapur | 1,40,000 | 1,12,000 |
| Rani | Solapur | 1,20,000 | 1,26,600 |
What to deliver (one under the other):
- Convert A1:D6 to a Table named
tblSales(Ctrl + T). - Add Achievement % = Actual ÷ Target.
- Add Gap (₹) = Actual − Target (negative means short).
- Add Status: Hit at 100% or more, Close at 90% or more, else Miss.
- Add Rank on achievement, best = 1.
- Add a total row: total achievement is total actual ÷ total target (not the average of the percentages).
- Colour the Status column with conditional formatting.
Key formulas (row 2; copy down or let the Table fill them):
E2: =[@Actual]/[@Target]
F2: =[@Actual]-[@Target]
G2: =IFS([@[Achievement %]]>=1,"Hit",[@[Achievement %]]>=0.9,"Close",TRUE,"Miss")
H2: =RANK.EQ([@[Achievement %]],[Achievement %],0)
Total: =SUM(tblSales[Actual])/SUM(tblSales[Target])
Expected result (check your numbers):
| City lead | Achievement % | Gap (₹) | Status | Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shraddha Bagale | 108.6% | 21,500 | Hit | 1 |
| Shahrukh | 92.7% | -13,200 | Close | 4 |
| Zoya | 93.2% | -10,800 | Close | 3 |
| Amir | 80.0% | -28,000 | Miss | 5 |
| Rani | 105.5% | 6,600 | Hit | 2 |
| Total | 97.2% | -23,900 | Close | — |
Total actual ₹8,26,100 ÷ total target ₹8,50,000 = 97.2%. The simple average of the five percentages would be 96.0%, which is the wrong number to report.
Checks before you send it:
- Achievement % column is formatted as % with one decimal.
- The total uses SUM ÷ SUM.
- Gap is negative only for leads below target.
- Status for exactly 90% says Close (test by typing a target of 100 and actual of 90 on a copy).
Ravindra Bagale's Tip
Report the total as total actual divided by total target. An average of percentages gives a small city the same weight as Pune.
Ravindra Bagale's Tip – मराठी
Total नेहमी total actual भागिले total target असाच सांगा. Percentages ची सरासरी घेतली तर छोट्या शहराला Pune इतकंच वजन मिळतं.
Ravindra Bagale's Tip – हिंदी
Total हमेशा total actual भाग total target ही बताएँ. Percentages का average लेने पर छोटे शहर को Pune जितना ही वज़न मिल जाता है.
