Grok Imagine: Image and Video from One Prompt (Step by Step)

Grok Imagine creates images and short videos from text (and can animate a photo). It lives inside Grok on the web and apps. As of 23 October 2026, x.ai/pricing lists The X Subscription: Free at $0 (limited), Plus $8/month (includes Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build, plus Cursor), Premium $30/month (more usage; "stunning AI images & videos"), then Super $100 and Ultra $200. Usage is a shared weekly pool with Cursor. India App Store listings can show different rupee amounts — always trust checkout. Plans change.

Suppose you need a Diwali poster tonight and an 8-second product spin for Instagram Reels tomorrow. Same family of tools: write a clear prompt, generate an image, then (on a plan that allows video) animate it. Label the post as AI. This guide is the Imagine how-to for beginners in India.

What you will learn in this guide

  • What Grok Imagine is
  • Free vs Plus vs Premium (USD list)
  • Festival poster image
  • Animate a family photo
  • 8-s product spin for Reels
  • Consent and AI labels

1. Suppose Ankit needs a poster and a reel

Suppose Ankit runs a small gift shop. He wants a Diwali poster first. If the image looks good, he animates a product photo for 6–8 seconds. He checks his Grok plan so he does not burn the weekly usage pool on ten failed videos.

2. What is Grok Imagine?

Word Simple meaning
Grok Chat assistant from xAI
Imagine Image (and video) creation inside Grok
Prompt The text instructions you type
Image-to-video Animate one still photo into a short clip

3. Plans that matter for Imagine (checked 23 October 2026)

Source: x.ai/pricing and cursor.com/pricing (same X Subscription family).

Plan List price (USD / month) Imagine-related note on the public page
Free $0 Limited chat / agent; Imagine listed as limited on free
Plus $8 Grok Chat, Voice, Imagine and Build + Cursor access
Premium $30 Higher usage (4× Plus); "Make stunning AI images & videos"
Super $100 15× Plus usage
Ultra $200 50× Plus usage

Taxes may apply. Existing SuperGrok / Cursor / X Premium plans may still run until you switch — see xAI docs. Do not invent INR for the web USD list; if you pay in the India App Store, read the rupee price on that screen.

4. Worked example 1: festival poster image

  1. Open grok.com (or the Grok app) and sign in.
  2. Open Imagine / image creation (wording can vary by app version).
  3. Paste:
Diwali gift shop poster, warm golden lights, diyas and gift boxes,
clean space on the right for price text, no real brand logos,
no celebrity faces, high detail, square 1:1
  1. Generate 2–4 options. Pick one with empty space for text.
  2. Add your real offer text in Canva ("Diwali pack ₹499 — sample price"). Do not trust AI-written phone numbers.

Expected output: a festive poster image you own under the tool's terms — still add real price text yourself.

Ravindra Bagale's Tip

Students write a huge prompt and get messy posters. Keep one scene, one mood, and empty space for text. Add numbers in Canva.

5. Worked example 2: animate a family photo (about 6 seconds)

  1. Use a photo you took or have clear permission to use. Prefer adults; for children, get parent consent and avoid public posting if unsure.
  2. Upload the photo into Grok Imagine's image-to-video / animate flow (if your plan and region show it).
  3. Prompt:
Keep the same faces and clothes. Soft smile. Gentle camera push-in.
About 6 seconds. Natural daylight. No extra people. No text.
  1. Generate once. If faces warp, stop — do not loop ten times.
  2. Before sharing on WhatsApp Status, tell family it is AI-animated.

Expected output: a short clip of the same people with light motion. Stop if identity looks wrong.

6. Worked example 3: 8-second product spin for Reels

  1. Upload one clear product photo (you own the rights).
  2. Prompt:
Keep the same product and colours. Slow turntable spin, 8 seconds.
Soft studio light. Clean background. No logos invented. No hands.
  1. Export vertical 9:16 if the tool allows, or crop in CapCut.
  2. Caption: "AI video made with Grok Imagine" plus your real WhatsApp number in the caption (not invented on-screen digits).
  3. Check remaining weekly usage before a second render.

Expected output: a short product motion clip ready for Reels/Shorts after you add your own text overlay.

7. Safety and labelling

  1. Label AI images and videos when you post.
  2. Do not deepfake real people without clear consent.
  3. Do not invent ISI marks, celebrity endorsements or fake certificates.
  4. Commercial use: read Grok / X terms for your plan.
  5. Never paste Aadhaar photos or bank screens into Imagine.

8. Beginner mistakes and quick fixes

Mistake What happens Quick fix
Ten video retries Usage pool empty One good image first
AI phone numbers on poster Wrong leads Add text in Canva
Animating strangers' photos Consent risk Only your photos
Ignoring Free limits Sudden blocks Check plan + usage
No AI label Trust issues Caption "AI-assisted"

9. Try at home

Try at home

  1. Make one Diwali (or local festival) poster with empty text space.
  2. Add price text in Canva.
  3. If your plan allows video, animate one product photo once and stop.

Recap

In short

  1. Grok Imagine makes images and (on capable plans) short videos.
  2. Check Free vs Plus ($8) vs Premium ($30) on x.ai/pricing.
  3. Poster → then video; save the weekly pool.
  4. Consent, labels and real prices belong to you.
  5. App Store INR can differ from web USD — trust checkout.

Clear prompt, one strong image, careful video, honest label. That is Grok Imagine for beginners.
