AI Mock Interview Practice Free with ChatGPT and Gemini (Voice Too)
You can run a free mock interview by giving ChatGPT or Gemini the job description and asking it to interview you one question at a time, then score your answers. For speaking practice, use ChatGPT voice or Gemini Live on your phone (free plans have limits). Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) for behaviour questions. Never paste your Aadhaar, PAN, salary slips or company secrets.
Suppose Rohan, a fresher in Nagpur, has a support-engineer interview on Monday, and Grace in Manila is moving into data analysis. Each pastes the job post, does a 6-question mock interview, gets a score with reasons, and rewrites the two weakest answers.

What you will learn in this guide
- Set up a mock interview
- Practise by voice
- Use STAR answers
- Get honest feedback
- Keep data private
1. Why: practice beats panic
Most people lose marks because they freeze or ramble, not because they lack skill. Saying answers aloud a few times makes them clear and calm.
2. What: what AI can and cannot do
| AI can | AI cannot |
|---|---|
| Ask role-based questions | Know the real panel’s questions |
| Score structure and clarity | Judge body language well |
| Suggest better wording | Replace real experience |
| Practise by voice | Guarantee a job |
Figure 1. Mock interview in five steps: paste the job post, ask one question at a time, answer, get feedback, repeat by voice.
3. How: run it
- Copy the public job description.
- Paste the mock interview prompt below into ChatGPT or Gemini.
- Answer each question; keep answers under 2 minutes.
- Ask for a score out of 10 with reasons.
- Rewrite your two weakest answers and repeat by voice.
4. Notes
- ChatGPT voice and Gemini Live are available in the phone apps; free plans have limits.
- AI feedback is a guide, not a hiring decision.
5. Worked example 1: text mock interview (start here)
Paste:
Act as an interviewer for this job: [paste job description].
Ask me 6 questions, one at a time. Wait for my answer each time.
After all 6, score each answer out of 10 and give one tip each.
Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same):
Question 1 appears; the AI waits for your answer before asking the next.
6. Worked example 2: STAR answer fix
Paste one answer:
Rewrite my answer using STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result).
Keep my real facts. Do not invent numbers. Under 120 words.
My answer: [paste]
Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same):
A clearer STAR answer using only your facts.
7. Worked example 3: voice practice
In ChatGPT voice or Gemini Live, say:
Please interview me for a fresher customer support role.
Ask short questions, interrupt politely if I talk too long,
and tell me if I say "um" too much.
Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same):
A spoken interview with gentle feedback on length and fillers.
Names, amounts and companies in the examples are made up for practice.
8. Common mistakes
| Mistake | Risk | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Asking for all answers at once | No real practice | One at a time |
| Memorising AI answers | Sound robotic | Use your own facts |
| Pasting ID or salary slips | Privacy risk | Never |
| Letting AI invent numbers | Caught in interview | Only real facts |
| Only typing | Freeze when speaking | Practise by voice |
9. Try at home
Try at home
- Run a 6-question mock.
- Fix your weakest answer with STAR.
- Repeat once by voice.
