AI Logo Generator Free (2026): Make a Business Logo in 5 Minutes, Then Check It

You can make a logo for free with Canva's AI logo generator, Gemini (Nano Banana) or ChatGPT: describe the business, its customers, 2 colours and a simple shape, then pick one result and fix the text yourself. Before you print it, do three checks: the colours pass a contrast test, the logo still reads at stamp size, and nobody owns a similar name in the free IP India trademark search (tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in). Canva says you may not get exclusive rights to AI designs, so for a logo you plan to register, rebuild the final version with your own shapes and text.

Every month a student shows me a beautiful AI logo with a spelling mistake in the shop name, or with six colours that turn into a grey blob on a rubber stamp. The AI part takes five minutes. The checking is what makes it a real business logo. In this guide we make a logo for a small business, test its colours with a short script, and look up the name in India's free trademark search.

1. Suppose Kavya is opening a tiffin service

Suppose Kavya starts a home tiffin service in Nashik called Annapurna Tiffins. She needs a logo for her WhatsApp profile, a printed menu card, a rubber stamp for bills and a sticker on every box. She types "make a logo for my tiffin business" and gets a glossy image with a plate, five spoons, a sunset and the words "Anapurna Tifins". Pretty, but wrong spelling, too many details, and it will not print on a stamp.

2. The free tools (checked on 19 October 2026)

Tool How to start Good for Watch out
Canva AI logo generator canva.com/ai-logo-generator, then edit in Canva Ready layouts you can edit, fonts, export Canva says you may not have exclusive rights to AI designs

ChatGPT Images chatgpt.com, ask for an image Clean flat icons, following detailed instructions Free image limit is small and not published

Use AI for ideas. Use an editor such as Canva for the final version with clean text.

Figure 1. From AI idea to a usable logo: write a clear brief, generate 4 ideas, pick one simple shape, rebuild the text yourself, then check contrast, small size and the trademark search.

3. The 6-part logo prompt

Part Question Kavya's answer
Business What do you sell? Home-cooked vegetarian tiffins
Customers Who buys? Students and office workers in Nashik
Feeling What should people feel? Homely, clean, trusted
Shape One simple symbol A steel tiffin box with a small leaf
Colours Two colours only Dark green and cream
Use Where will it appear? WhatsApp icon, menu card, stamp, box sticker

4. Worked example 1: four logo ideas in Gemini or ChatGPT

Create 4 different flat vector logo ideas for "Annapurna Tiffins", a home-cooked
vegetarian tiffin service for students and office workers in Nashik.
Feeling: homely, clean, trusted. Symbol: a simple steel tiffin box with one small leaf.
Colours: dark green (#1B5E20) and cream (#FFF8E1) only. No gradients, no shadows,
no photos, no extra words. Plain background. It must still be clear at stamp size.

Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): four simple icons with a tiffin box and leaf, in green and cream. One or two may still spell the name wrongly or add tiny details. Pick the one with the simplest shape, even if the text is wrong; you will fix the text next.

Ravindra Bagale's Tip

Never accept the letters an AI image model draws. Ask for the symbol only, then type the business name yourself in Canva with a clear font. Typed text is always spelled right, and you can change it later.

5. Worked example 2: rebuild the final logo in Canva

  1. Ask the AI again for the symbol only: "Same tiffin and leaf icon, no text, on a plain background."
  2. In Canva, open a new Logo design (500 x 500 px) and upload the icon, or recreate it with Canva's basic shapes for a version that is fully yours.
  3. Type Annapurna Tiffins with one clear font. Add a small line below: Ghar jaisa khana, Nashik.
  4. Make three versions: full colour, all black, and all white on dark green.
  5. Download as PNG with a transparent background, and as SVG if your plan allows it, for printing.

Expected output: one simple logo in three colour versions, with a correctly spelled name typed by you.

6. Worked example 3: check the colours with a script (Python)

A logo that looks fine on your phone may vanish on a sticker or a website. The WCAG contrast formula gives a number: text needs at least 4.5:1, and large text or logo shapes need at least 3:1. This script checks four colour pairs.

# Check logo colours with the WCAG contrast formula (text needs 4.5:1, large text and logo shapes 3:1).
def lum(hex_colour):
    r, g, b = (int(hex_colour.lstrip("#")[i:i + 2], 16) / 255 for i in (0, 2, 4))
    lin = lambda c: c / 12.92 if c <= 0.04045 else ((c + 0.055) / 1.055) ** 2.4
    return 0.2126 * lin(r) + 0.7152 * lin(g) + 0.0722 * lin(b)

def ratio(a, b):
    hi, lo = sorted((lum(a), lum(b)), reverse=True)
    return (hi + 0.05) / (lo + 0.05)

pairs = {
    "Dark green on cream (shop sign)": ("#1B5E20", "#FFF8E1"),
    "Saffron on white (website header)": ("#FF9933", "#FFFFFF"),
    "Yellow on white (sticker)": ("#FFD54F", "#FFFFFF"),
    "White on maroon (app icon)": ("#FFFFFF", "#7B1E3A"),
}
for name, (fg, bg) in pairs.items():
    r = ratio(fg, bg)
    verdict = "OK for text" if r >= 4.5 else "logo shape only" if r >= 3 else "too faint"
    print(f"{name:<36} {r:5.2f}:1  {verdict}")

Real output (19 October 2026):

Dark green on cream (shop sign) 7.41:1 OK for text
Saffron on white (website header) 2.13:1 too faint
Yellow on white (sticker) 1.41:1 too faint
White on maroon (app icon) 10.05:1 OK for text

Kavya's green on cream passes easily. Saffron or yellow on white looks bright on screen but is too faint for a name. If you love saffron, use it for the leaf and keep the name in a dark colour. Paste your own hex codes into the script and run it again.

Stamp test: shrink the logo to 2 cm wide (about the size of a rubber stamp or a WhatsApp profile picture) and print it in black only. If you cannot read the name or see the shape, remove details until you can.

Trademark search (free, official):

  1. Open tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in and verify with your email or mobile OTP.
  2. Choose Wordmark, type the main word (ANNAPURNA), and pick Contains.
  3. Choose the class for your business (food services are usually class 43; check the class list on the portal).
  4. Also try Phonetic search for names that sound the same.

Expected output: a list of existing marks with their status. A common word like Annapurna will show many results; if a similar name is Registered in your class, a plainer path is to add a distinctive word (for example, Kavya's Annapurna Tiffins) or pick a new name. For a mark you want to register, talk to a trademark agent.

8. Rights and safety

  • Exclusive rights: Canva's AI page says you may not have exclusive rights to AI-generated designs, and its content licence does not let you claim stock library content as your own. For a logo you plan to register, rebuild it from your own shapes and text.
  • Do not copy famous brands. Never ask for "a logo like Amul" or "Zomato style". It can confuse buyers and invite legal trouble.
  • Keep the files: save your prompt, the AI image and your final editable design. They show how you made it.
  • Watermarks: Gemini images carry a visible mark and SynthID. Use them as ideas and rebuild the final version.

9. Beginner mistakes and quick fixes

Mistake What happens Quick fix
Accepting AI-drawn letters Spelling mistakes in the name Type the name yourself in Canva
Six colours and gradients Grey blob on stamps and prints Two colours, flat shapes
Only testing on a phone Logo vanishes at small size Print it 2 cm wide in black
Saffron or yellow text on white Name is hard to read Run the contrast script; aim for 4.5:1
"Make it like a famous brand" Confusion and legal risk Describe your own business and feeling
Skipping the trademark search Someone else owns the name Search IP India before printing

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best free AI logo generator?

Canva's AI logo generator is the easiest because you can edit the result and export it. Gemini and ChatGPT are good for quick symbol ideas. Rebuild the final logo with your own typed text.

Can I use an AI-generated logo for my business?

Canva allows commercial use under its terms, but says you may not have exclusive rights to AI designs. For a logo you plan to register as a trademark, rebuild it with your own shapes and text and search the name first.

Why does the AI spell my business name wrong?

Image models draw letters as shapes and still make mistakes. Ask for the symbol without text, then type the name yourself in an editor.

How do I check if a logo name is already taken in India?

Use the free Trade Mark Public Search at tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in. Verify with an email or mobile OTP, search the main word with Contains in your class, and try a Phonetic search too.

What size and format should I download a logo in?

A PNG with a transparent background for WhatsApp and websites, and an SVG or high-resolution PDF for printing. Keep full colour, all-black and all-white versions.
