Couple Photo Editing Prompts for ChatGPT and Gemini (Safe and Respectful, 2026)
To edit a couple photo with AI, upload a clear photo of both of you to Gemini (Tools, then Create images; Nano Banana) or ChatGPT, and write the prompt in 5 parts: Keep both faces and the pose, Change one thing such as the background or outfit, then the Style, Light and Size. Edit only photos where both people agreed, never add a real person who was not there, and remember Gemini adds a visible watermark and an invisible SynthID mark to every image.
Couple edits are the photos people care about most: an anniversary post, a save-the-date card, a gift for parents. They are also where AI goes wrong most, because the tool has to keep two faces the same at once. In this guide you will learn why faces change, use a prompt that protects both faces, try 10 tested prompts, and follow the simple consent rules that keep these edits happy and safe.

This guide is about photos of two people. For the formula behind all photo edits, read Gemini Nano Banana Photo Editing Prompts, and for how AI photo editing works, read How AI Photo Editing Works: 3 Portrait Projects in Gemini.

What you will learn in this guide
- The best photo to start with
- A prompt that keeps both faces
- 10 copy-paste couple prompts
- Fixing faces that change
- A prompt builder script
- Consent and safety rules
1. Suppose Rohan wants an anniversary surprise
Suppose Rohan and Sneha in Mumbai have their 5th anniversary next week. Rohan has a nice photo of the two of them at a friend's wedding, but the background is a crowded hall with a fan and an exit sign. He types "make this photo romantic" and gets a new picture where Sneha's face looks like a different person. Sneha will notice immediately. The fix is not a better app; it is a prompt that tells the AI what must not change.
2. Pick the right starting photo
| Good starting photo | Why |
|---|---|
| Both faces clear, facing the camera | The AI has detail to keep |
| Good light, not blurry | Blurry faces get "invented" |
| Only the two of you, or others far away | Fewer faces to confuse |
| Original from the phone, not a WhatsApp forward | WhatsApp photos are compressed |
3. Open the tool (checked on 19 October 2026)
Gemini: open the Gemini app or gemini.google.com, tap Tools, choose Create images, tap + to upload the photo, then type your prompt. Free accounts use Nano Banana 2; Google AI plans get newer models. You must be 18 or older for these image features.
ChatGPT: open chatgpt.com or the app, attach the photo with +, and type the prompt. Free accounts have a small daily image limit that OpenAI does not publish; ChatGPT shows when it resets.
Figure 1. A couple edit in five steps: both people agree, pick a clear original photo, write Keep and Change first, change one thing per message in the same chat, then check both faces before sharing.
4. Worked example 1: the anniversary edit
Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same, and keep
the same pose, holding hands. Change the background to a lit Marine Drive at dusk.
Style: realistic photo, like a phone camera. Light: soft evening light from the left.
Size 4:5. Do not add extra people, text or jewellery.
Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): the same couple in the same pose, now in front of the sea and the lit Queen's Necklace curve. If one face changes, do not start again. Type in the same chat: "Sneha's face changed. Use her face exactly as in the original photo; change nothing else."
Ravindra Bagale's Tip
Change one thing per message: first the background, then the light, then the outfit. When you ask for five changes at once, the AI redraws the whole picture and faces drift. Small steps in the same chat keep both of you looking like yourselves.
5. Worked example 2: build your prompt with a script (Python)
This small script fills the 5 parts for you, and refuses two unsafe requests: editing without both people agreeing, and adding a real person who was not in the photo.
# Build a couple-photo prompt with the Keep / Change / Style / Light / Size parts, and refuse unsafe requests.
def couple_prompt(p):
if p["is_real_other_person"]:
return "STOP: do not put yourself next to someone who is not in the photo with you."
if not p["both_agreed"]:
return "STOP: ask both people first. Edit only photos where both of you said yes."
return (f"Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same, and keep "
f"{p['pose']}. Change {p['change']}. Style: {p['style']}. Light: {p['light']}. "
f"Size {p['size']}. Do not add extra people, text or jewellery.")
requests = {
"Anniversary portrait": dict(both_agreed=True, is_real_other_person=False,
pose="the same pose, holding hands", change="the background to a lit Marine Drive at dusk",
style="realistic photo, like a phone camera", light="soft evening light from the left", size="4:5"),
"Wedding card sketch": dict(both_agreed=True, is_real_other_person=False,
pose="the pose and outfits", change="the whole photo into a soft watercolour illustration",
style="hand-painted wedding card art", light="even, bright", size="5:7"),
"Me with a film star": dict(both_agreed=False, is_real_other_person=True, pose="", change="",
style="", light="", size=""),
}
for name, r in requests.items():
print(f"[{name}]\n{couple_prompt(r)}\n")
Real output (19 October 2026):
[Anniversary portrait]
Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same, and keep the same pose, holding hands. Change the background to a lit Marine Drive at dusk. Style: realistic photo, like a phone camera. Light: soft evening light from the left. Size 4:5. Do not add extra people, text or jewellery.
[Wedding card sketch]
Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same, and keep the pose and outfits. Change the whole photo into a soft watercolour illustration. Style: hand-painted wedding card art. Light: even, bright. Size 5:7. Do not add extra people, text or jewellery.
[Me with a film star]
STOP: do not put yourself next to someone who is not in the photo with you.
Change the pose, change, style, light and size values for your own photo and run it again. Copy the printed prompt into Gemini or ChatGPT.
6. Worked example 3: a save-the-date card in three messages
Suppose Rohan's cousins Aarti and Vikram want a save-the-date card. They use one clear photo and three short messages in the same chat:
1) Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same.
Change only the background to soft marigold flowers. Size 5:7.
2) Keep everything. Make the light warm, like late afternoon sun.
3) Keep everything. Leave clear empty space at the top for text. Do not add any text.
Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): the same couple in front of marigolds, in warm light, with a clean space at the top. Add the names and date yourself in Canva or your phone's editor, so the spelling is right.
7. 10 copy-paste couple prompts
Upload your photo first. Every prompt starts with the same Keep line:
Keep line: "Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same."
| Use | Add after the Keep line |
|---|---|
| Save-the-date card | "Change the background to soft marigold flowers. Leave space at the top for text. Style: elegant card photo. Size 5:7." |
| Retro film poster | "Change the outfits to a 1990s Bollywood look. Style: film poster with soft grain. Do not add any text. Size 2:3." |
| Rain in Lonavala | "Change the background to green hills in light monsoon rain, with one umbrella over both of us. Style: realistic. Size 4:5." |
| Festival look | "Add a green Paithani saree for her and a cream kurta for him. Background: a home entrance with a diya-lit rangoli. Size 9:16." |
| Watercolour gift | "Turn the whole photo into a soft watercolour painting on paper. Keep our pose. Size 1:1." |
| Old photo restore | "This is an old scanned photo of my parents. Remove scratches and dust, sharpen gently, keep it black and white." |
| Travel memory | "Change the background to Jaipur's Hawa Mahal in morning light. Keep our clothes the same. Size 4:5." |
| Clean background | "Remove the people behind us and fill the area naturally. Change nothing else." |
| Cartoon couple | "Turn us into 3D cartoon characters. Keep our clothes colours and pose. Size 1:1." |
| Fix the light | "The photo is too dark. Make it look like bright daylight with natural colours. Do not smooth our skin." |
Check before you share: zoom in on both faces, hands and any text. AI still makes mistakes with fingers, jewellery and small letters.
8. Consent and safety rules
- Both people agree. Edit and post a couple photo only when both of you are happy with it.
- No fake couples. Never put yourself next to a film star, an ex or anyone who was not in the photo. It can be harassment or a deepfake, and it can be illegal.
- No revealing or intimate edits, even of your own partner. Gemini and ChatGPT rules do not allow them, and making them can be a crime.
- Watermarks stay. Gemini adds a visible mark and SynthID; do not try to remove them to pass an image off as real.
- Privacy: do not upload other guests' faces from a wedding photo without asking them.
9. Beginner mistakes and quick fixes
| Mistake | What happens | Quick fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Make this romantic" | AI changes faces and pose | Start with the Keep line |
| Five changes in one message | Faces drift | One change per message, same chat |
| Using a WhatsApp forward | Blurry, invented faces | Use the original phone photo |
| New chat for each fix | Faces change every time | Stay in the same chat |
| Posting without checking | Extra fingers or wrong jewellery | Zoom in on faces and hands |
| Editing without asking your partner | Hurt feelings, trust issues | Show them first, post together |
10. Try at home
Try at home
- Pick one clear photo of you two.
- Ask your partner first.
- Paste the Keep line and one change.
- Fix any face change in the same chat.
- Try one card prompt from the table.
- Check faces and hands before sharing.
Recap
In short
- Start with a clear, original photo of both of you.
- Every prompt begins with Keep: both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions.

- Gemini (Create images) and ChatGPT both edit couple photos on free plans, with daily limits.
- Edit only with both people's consent, and never add someone who was not there.
- Gemini images carry a visible watermark and SynthID; keep them.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best prompt for couple photo editing?
Start with "Keep both faces, skin tones, hairstyles and expressions exactly the same", then change one thing, such as the background, and add style, light and size.
Can I edit couple photos in Gemini for free?
Yes. Open Gemini, choose Tools, then Create images, upload your photo and type the prompt. Free accounts use Nano Banana 2 with daily limits, and you must be 18 or older.
Why does AI change our faces?
The model redraws the image and has to keep two faces at once. Use a clear original photo, begin with a Keep line, change one thing per message, and fix any change in the same chat.
Is it safe to upload couple photos to AI apps?
Upload only photos both of you agreed to share, avoid other people's faces, and check the app's privacy settings. Never make fake or intimate images of anyone.
Can I add a celebrity to my photo with AI?
No. Putting a real person into a photo they were not in can be harassment or a deepfake. Edit only the people who are really in the photo and who agreed.
