AI Tools for Teachers (2026): Free Lesson Plans, Quizzes from a PDF and Worksheets

Teachers in India can use three free AI tools: Gemini in Classroom (free with a school's Google Workspace for Education account) for lesson plans, quizzes and rubrics; Gemini Notebook to make a quiz from your own chapter PDF; and ChatGPT Free to re-write a worksheet at an easier level or in Marathi or Hindi. AI gives a first draft. Always check every answer key, mix up the correct options, and never paste students' names or marks into a personal account.

I train school teachers as well as students, and the first thing teachers tell me is: "Sir, AI made a quiz in one minute, but three answers were wrong." AI saves hours of typing, but the checking is still our job. In this guide we make a lesson plan, a quiz from a chapter PDF and a simpler bilingual worksheet, and then run a short script that catches the most common quiz mistakes.

1. Suppose Sunita Ma'am has one free period

Suppose Sunita teaches science to Class 7 in a school in Kolhapur. Tomorrow she starts photosynthesis. She needs a lesson plan, a 10-question quiz from the textbook chapter and an easier worksheet for students who read slowly, some of whom are more comfortable in Marathi. She has one free period. Typing all of this by hand would take her whole evening.

2. The three free tools (checked on 19 October 2026)

Tool Best for Good to know
Gemini in Classroom Lesson plans, quizzes, rubrics, re-levelling text, more than 30 teacher tools Free with all Google Workspace for Education editions; your school admin controls access; teacher accounts must be set as 18 or older
Gemini Notebook A quiz or study guide from your own PDF or notes Answers come only from the sources you upload
ChatGPT Free Worksheets, simpler versions, Marathi or Hindi versions Use a personal account only for content with no student data

Gemini in Classroom is now available in all Classroom-supported languages, and a quiz it makes can be exported to Google Forms. Google is also launching a free Google AI Educator Series for Indian teachers later in 2026, with short sessions and a digital badge.

Using AI for one lesson Steps from top to bottom: 1 Give class and topic, Class 7, photosynthesis, 40 min; 2 Generate a draft, Plan, quiz or worksheet; 3 Check every answer, Against the chapter page; 4 Adapt for your class, Easier text, Marathi, local examples; 5 Teach and note changes, Reuse the prompt next time. 1Give class and topicClass 7, photosynthesis, 40 min 2Generate a draftPlan, quiz or worksheet 3Check every answerAgainst the chapter page 4Adapt for your classEasier text, Marathi, local examples 5Teach and note changesReuse the prompt next time

Figure 1. Using AI for a lesson in five steps: tell it the class and topic, generate a draft, check every fact and answer, adapt it for your students, then teach and note what to change.

3. Worked example 1: a lesson plan in Gemini in Classroom

  1. Open Google Classroom with your school account and click the Gemini tab.
  2. Choose Outline a lesson plan.
  3. Enter the grade (Class 7), the topic (photosynthesis) and the time (one 40-minute period). Add: "Include a 5-minute hook with a real plant, and an exit question."

Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): learning objectives, a short hook ("Why do plants on a dark staircase turn yellow?"), the main activity, a group task, an exit question, and suggested videos. Read it and change anything that does not suit your class.

4. Worked example 2: a quiz from your chapter PDF

  1. Open Gemini Notebook and upload the chapter PDF (from your textbook publisher's website) or your own typed notes.
  2. Ask:
Make 10 multiple-choice questions for Class 7 from only this chapter. Four options
each, one correct. Mix the correct answers across A, B, C and D. Make all options a
similar length. Give the answer key and the page for each question at the end.
  1. In Gemini in Classroom, you can also use Generate a quiz and export it to Google Forms.

Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): ten questions such as "Which gas do leaves take in during photosynthesis? A. Oxygen B. Carbon dioxide C. Nitrogen D. Hydrogen", then an answer key with page numbers. Check every answer against the page it names.

Ravindra Bagale's Tip

Check the answer key before the questions. AI often puts most correct answers in the same option, or makes the right answer the longest one, and sharp students notice. Count A, B, C and D in the key, and fix it before you share the quiz.

5. Worked example 3: an easier, bilingual worksheet with ChatGPT

  1. Paste your English worksheet text into ChatGPT (no student names).
  2. Ask:
Rewrite this worksheet for Class 7 students who read slowly. Use short sentences and
everyday words. Keep the science correct. Then give the same worksheet in simple Marathi.
Keep all numbers, labels and diagram names the same in both.

Expected output (yours will be similar, not the same): an English version with short lines such as "Plants make food in their leaves. They need sunlight, water and air.", followed by the same in Marathi ("वनस्पती पानांमध्ये अन्न तयार करतात..."). Ask a Marathi-speaking colleague to read it once before printing.

6. Worked example 4: check an AI quiz with a script (Python)

This script catches three quiz mistakes AI often makes: two options that are the same, a right answer much longer than the others, and an answer key that keeps using one letter.

# Check an AI-made multiple-choice quiz before you give it to the class.
from collections import Counter
quiz = [
    ("What does a plant need for photosynthesis?", ["Sunlight", "Salt", "Sand", "Smoke"], "A"),
    ("Which gas do leaves take in?", ["Oxygen", "Carbon dioxide", "Nitrogen", "Carbon dioxide"], "B"),
    ("Where does photosynthesis mostly happen?", ["Roots", "Leaves, mainly in the green parts called chloroplasts", "Flowers", "Stem"], "B"),
    ("What do plants make in photosynthesis?", ["Glucose", "Plastic", "Iron", "Salt"], "A"),
    ("Which colour pigment absorbs light?", ["Chlorophyll", "Melanin", "Ink", "Rust"], "A"),
]
problems = []
for i, (q, opts, ans) in enumerate(quiz, 1):
    if len(set(o.lower() for o in opts)) < len(opts):
        problems.append(f"Q{i}: two options are the same")
    right = opts["ABCD".index(ans)]
    if len(right) > 2 * max(len(o) for o in opts if o != right):
        problems.append(f"Q{i}: the right answer is much longer than the others (a giveaway)")
keys = Counter(a for *_, a in quiz)
if max(keys.values()) > len(quiz) // 2:
    letter, n = keys.most_common(1)[0]
    problems.append(f"Answer key: {n} of {len(quiz)} answers are {letter}; mix them up")
print("Answer key count:", dict(sorted(keys.items())))
print("\n".join(problems) if problems else "No problems found")

Real output (19 October 2026):

Answer key count: {'A': 3, 'B': 2}
Q2: two options are the same
Q3: the right answer is much longer than the others (a giveaway)
Answer key: 3 of 5 answers are A; mix them up

Fix question 2 (two "Carbon dioxide" options), shorten the right answer in question 3, and move two answers away from A. Then the quiz is fair.

7. Student data and honest use

  • Never paste students' names, roll numbers, marks or photos into a personal AI account. Use your school's Workspace account, where the admin controls the settings.
  • Read every output before class. AI can be wrong about facts, and examples may not suit Indian classrooms.
  • Follow your school's rules on AI use, and tell students when an activity was drafted with AI.
  • Keep your voice. Change the hook and examples to your town, your students and your lab.

8. Beginner mistakes and quick fixes

Mistake What happens Quick fix
Not saying the class Too hard or too easy Always give the class and time
Quiz from AI memory, not the chapter Questions outside the chapter Upload the chapter PDF
Not checking the answer key Wrong answers marked right Check each answer against the page
All answers in option A Students guess the pattern Count and mix the key
Pasting student marks Privacy risk School account, no names
Printing without reading the translation Odd Marathi words One colleague reads it first
