Chala mitrano! Security has many words, and in interviews you must use them correctly in English, while explaining to family and local clients in Marathi. Today we make 30 flashcards with both languages, practise with spaced repetition, and finish with a self-test. Shabda aaple, aatmavishwas aapla!
Suppose we are…
Suppose we have joined the customer-awareness team of a cooperative bank in Pune, like Cosmos Bank, which runs cyber-safety sessions in Marathi for customers and in English for staff. We must be able to say "phishing", "MFA" or "ransomware" correctly in English and explain them simply in Marathi. We build flashcards from 30 core terms and test ourselves.
Goal of this lab
By the end you will have:
- 30 flashcards (Anki or paper) with the English term on the front and Marathi plus a simple meaning on the back.
- Your own one-line explanation of each term, linked to a lab where you saw it.
- A self-test score of at least 25/30.
What you need (all free)
- The glossary file below. Excel or Google Sheets.
- Anki desktop (
apps.ankiweb.net, free) or 30 small paper cards. About 40 minutes, then 5 minutes a day.

Safety and ethics
When you explain these terms to family or customers, never use real victims' names or details as examples without permission. Use general scenarios like the sample cases in this course.
Steps
-
Open
cyber_glossary_30.csvin Excel or Google Sheets. What you should see: 30 rows with English term, Marathi (for example
If the Marathi shows as strange symbols in Excel, use Data → From Text/CSV and choose 65001: Unicode (UTF-8). -
Add a fourth column My one-liner + lab. For each term write your own explanation in under 15 words and one lab number, for example "Hash: file fingerprint; one change = new hash. Lab 28."
-
Anki: open Anki → Create Deck → name it
Cyber Glossary EN-MR. Then File → Import → choose the CSV → set Field separator: Comma, Allow HTML: off, deckCyber Glossary EN-MR, map field 1 to Front and fields 2–3 to Back → Import. What you should see: "30 notes added". (Paper option: write the English term on the front of each card and the Marathi and meaning on the back.)
-
Study once: click the deck → Study Now. For each card, say the meaning aloud in English and in Marathi before turning it. Press Again if you were wrong, Good if right.
-
Self-test: hide the Marathi and meaning columns in your sheet (right-click the column → Hide). For each English term, write the meaning on paper. Then unhide and mark yourself.
What you should see: a score out of 30. Under 25 means: study the deck for 3 more days and retest.
-
Reverse test: hide the English term column and read only the Marathi. Can you name the English term? This is what you need when a Marathi-speaking customer describes a problem.
- Pick 5 terms and explain them to a family member in Marathi in one minute each, using an everyday example (for example फिशिंग: "बँकेसारखा दिसणारा खोटा SMS").
- Keep reviewing in Anki for 5 minutes a day; it will show each card just before you would forget it.
Ravindra Bagale's Tip
Many technical words are used as they are in Marathi: That is fine. What matters is that the listener understands the idea, so always add a simple Marathi explanation, like "संगणकाची संरक्षक भिंत". Shabda aani artha, donhi!
Ravindra Bagale's Tip –
Ravindra Bagale's Tip –
Common mistakes
| Mistake | What happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Opening the CSV by double-click in old Excel | Marathi shows as garbled text | Import with UTF-8 (65001) |
| Turning the card before answering aloud | You recognise, but cannot recall | Say it aloud first, then turn |
| Mixing up authentication and authorization | A common interview mistake | Authentication = who you are; authorization = what you may do |
| Studying all 30 for an hour once | Forgotten in a week | 5 minutes daily with Anki |
| Copying the given meaning as your one-liner | Weak memory | Write it in your own words with a lab number |

Try-at-home challenge
Add 5 new terms you met in this course (for example SUID, HSTS, UTR, presigned URL, SOC) to the CSV with your own Marathi explanation, and import them into the same Anki deck.
Check your answer
Example rows: SUID | एसयूआयडी (मालकाच्या अधिकाराने चालणारा प्रोग्राम) | A program that runs with its owner's rights, often root; UTR | यूटीआर (व्यवहार संदर्भ क्रमांक) | The unique reference number of a bank or UPI transfer. Save as CSV UTF-8, then File → Import into the same deck; Anki adds only the new notes.
Samjla ka? Thirty words, two languages, your own lines, a little every day. Aata pudhe jaauya: your next course, or back to any lab you want to master.
