How to Set Up Google Antigravity in IntelliJ IDEA (Step by Step)
Gemini Code Assist for individuals stopped serving IDE requests on 18 June 2026. Google’s replacement path is Antigravity. JetBrains IDEs (IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm, and more) get Antigravity through JetBrains AI → Settings → Agents — IDE version 2026.2.1+.
In short: upgrade to a JetBrains IDE 2026.2.1 or later, open JetBrains AI → Settings → Agents, search Antigravity, Install, then sign in with a Google Account that has an Antigravity plan (free tier included per Google docs) or follow your admin’s Gemini Enterprise steps (Enterprise JetBrains support is Preview).
Why Antigravity in IntelliJ
Java/Kotlin teams that used Gemini Code Assist in JetBrains need a current install path. Antigravity is the product Google points individuals and Gemini Enterprise users to after the Code Assist individual IDE cutoff.
What you need
- JetBrains IDE 2026.2.1+: IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, WebStorm, GoLand, CLion, Rider, and more — Antigravity docs list 2026.2.1 as the floor.
- Antigravity entitlement: Google Account with an Antigravity plan (docs say including free tier) or Gemini Enterprise (JetBrains enterprise auth is Preview).
- Not the old Gemini Code Assist individual login: Login with Google for the old individual Code Assist IDE path ended 18 Jun 2026.
- Related VS Code lesson: Same migration story: Antigravity in VS Code.
How setup flows
Install steps
- Help → About: confirm build is 2026.2.1 or newer. Upgrade from JetBrains Toolbox if needed.
- Open JetBrains AI → Settings → Agents (path from current Antigravity JetBrains docs).
- Search Antigravity → click Install.
- Sign in when prompted. Individuals: personal Google Account / Antigravity plan.
- Company Preview path: admin gives GCP project + region; use Gemini Enterprise / business auth as documented.
- Open the Antigravity / agent side panel and try a small ask on one file.
Settings
- Re-open JetBrains AI → Settings → Agents if you need to repair or update the agent.
- If menus differ slightly by IDE skin, search Settings for “Agents” or “Antigravity”.
- PyCharm / WebStorm: repeat Install in that IDE — agents are per IDE install.
Configuration / auth shapes
Individual-style auth object (from Antigravity docs){
"auth": {
"type": "oauth-personal"
}
}- Docs also show
oauth-business(Gemini Enterprise + GCP project/location),gemini-api-key, and Previewagent-platform/ ADC shapes — copy from official docs, do not invent fields. - Never commit API keys or ADC JSON into Git.
