5.3 Stop vs Deallocate
Why. “Stopped” in the portal is not always “not billing compute”.
What. Learn the difference between stopping from inside the OS vs deallocating in Azure so compute capacity is released. Disks may still cost money — check current pricing docs.
How.
- After lab: use portal Stop / Deallocate for the VM.
- Confirm status shows deallocated.
- Delete unused public IPs / disks when the whole lab ends.
