5.2 Create Wizard: Fields That Matter
Why. The create wizard has many tabs. Only a few fields decide cost and security on day one.
What / How — fields that matter
- Subscription + Resource group — your lab RG.
- Region — same as RG.
- Image — Ubuntu Server LTS (version as listed today).
- Size — smallest reasonable for learning; confirm it fits your free/credit rules.
- Authentication — prefer SSH public key over password.
- Public inbound ports — allow SSH (22) only if you understand the risk; tighten later with NSG.
Prices change
Do not memorise old Azure ₹/hour numbers from blogs. Always check Microsoft’s current free limits and pricing calculator before you create paid resources.
Fictional lab
Portal clicks and company names here are teaching stories only. They are not real Microsoft invoices.
