1. What Is Microsoft Azure (Simple Explanation)

1.1 Azure in Daily India Business Words

Why. Ruhi Bagale runs a small dairy shop CRM for Mauli Dairy in Pune. The old office PC crashes. She does not want to buy another tower, pay AMC, and keep backups on a pen drive. She wants a computer she can rent by the hour, reach from home, and turn off when the shop is closed.

What. Microsoft Azure is Microsoft’s cloud platform. You rent compute (virtual machines), storage (files/disks), networks, databases and many managed services inside Microsoft data centres. You manage them from a website called the Azure Portal.

How.

Say Azure in shop language

  1. Compute — a rented computer (VM) that runs your app 24×7 if you leave it on.
  2. Storage — a rented hard disk / file cupboard in the cloud (Blob storage).
  3. Network — private roads and gates between those resources (VNet + NSG).
  4. Identity — who can log in (Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure AD).

Worked example — fictional Mauli Dairy. Instead of one PC under the billing counter, Ruhi plans: one small Linux VM for the web app, Blob storage for invoice PDFs, and a database later. Same business goal — fewer cables in the shop.

Fictional lab

Portal clicks and company names here are teaching stories only. They are not real Microsoft invoices.
