Chapter 06 · SAP S/4HANA, BTP & ERP
What Is SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform)
BTP is SAP’s cloud platform for extensions, integrations and data/AI services around the core ERP.
Why this matters
Customers want mobile apps, side-by-side extensions and integrations without breaking the clean core. BTP is the umbrella many India projects mention next to S/4HANA.
What you will learn
You will learn the “clean core + extend on BTP” idea, hear example service types (integration, app hosting, analytics), and know this is a map — not a full developer bootcamp.
How to do it
Hands-on BTP needs authorised accounts. We stay conceptual in Volume 1.
Steps (do these in order)
- Step 1 — Why extend outside. Keep ERP upgrades smoother; build custom apps and flows beside the core.
- Step 2 — BTP as umbrella. Services for integration, application development, data and AI — product names change; the idea stays.
- Step 3 — Example story. Dealer app in India checks order status via APIs instead of a fragile core modification.
- Step 4 — Roles. BTP developers, integration consultants, architects — different from pure FI config.
- Step 5 — Learning next. After Volume 1: official learning journeys, not random cracked tutorials.
Practice
- Write a six-line “clean core” explanation with one India extension example.
- List two risks of heavy custom code inside the ERP core (upgrade pain, support).
