Chapter 01 · SAP S/4HANA, BTP & ERP
What Is ERP and Why Companies Use SAP
ERP connects finance, stock, sales and HR in one system so teams stop fighting over Excel copies.
Why this matters
Manufacturing, retail and services groups outgrow scattered sheets. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is the shared backbone. SAP is one major ERP vendor. This course teaches ideas and navigation concepts — not cracked GUI installs.
What you will learn
You will learn what ERP solves, where SAP fits, and how functional vs technical careers differ (deeper in a later chapter).
How to do it
Use public SAP documentation and trial landscapes your employer or university provides. We never share licence keys.
Steps (do these in order)
- Step 1 — Pain without ERP. Sales promises stock Finance never saw; HR has a different headcount than Payroll. Nightly Excel merges break.
- Step 2 — ERP idea. One database of record for core processes, with modules and permissions.
- Step 3 — Why SAP appears in India jobs. Many enterprises and partners standardised on SAP. Roles include functional consultant, ABAP, BTP, Basis — names vary.
- Step 4 — What this course will not do. No pirated IDES, no licence bypass, no scraped customer data. Concepts + public learning paths only.
- Step 5 — Success for Volume 1. Explain ERP to a friend and name S/4HANA, modules, org elements, Fiori and BTP at a beginner level.
Practice
- Write five lines: company type, two pain points Excel caused, how ERP would help.
- List three India job titles that mention SAP (from public job boards you already browse).
