Chapter 03 · SAP S/4HANA, BTP & ERP
Modules Overview (FI, MM, SD, HR)
Modules are process areas. FI money, MM materials, SD sales, HR people — simplified.
Why this matters
Consultants specialise. Knowing what each module owns helps you pick a lane and talk to other teams without panic.
What you will learn
You will map each module to everyday company verbs (post invoice, procure stock, create sales order, hire employee) and see that real projects cross modules.
How to do it
Names evolve (HCM vs SuccessFactors, etc.). We use familiar interview labels first.
Steps (do these in order)
- Step 1 — FI / Finance. General ledger, payables, receivables, reporting — money story of the company.
- Step 2 — MM / Materials. Procure-to-stock ideas: purchase requests, goods receipt, inventory valuing.
- Step 3 — SD / Sales. Order-to-cash: enquiry, sales order, delivery, billing — later mini-case chapter expands this.
- Step 4 — HR / people. Master data, time, payroll integration — often separate products in modern landscapes.
- Step 5 — Integration reminder. A sales order can create delivery needs that hit MM stock and later FI postings.
Practice
- Draw a four-box map FI–MM–SD–HR with one verb each.
- Pick which module you might specialise in and write why in three lines.
