Chapter 15: Kubernetes Introduction
15.2 Primary local tool — kind
This course sticks to kind (Kubernetes IN Docker) for labs.
| Tool | One-line idea |
|---|---|
| kind | Cluster nodes as Docker containers — our choice |
| k3d | k3s in Docker (also popular — we mention only) |
| minikube | Local cluster VM/docker driver (also popular — we mention only) |
Do not hop between kind/k3d/minikube in the same week of labs — commands and ingress quirks differ. Learn kind deeply first.
# Prerequisites sketch: working Docker + kubectl + kind installed per current docs
kind version
kubectl version --client
What you see: version strings. Install from official kind and Kubernetes docs for your OS — package names change; we do not freeze fragile apt lines here.
kind create cluster --name badge-api
kubectl cluster-info
kubectl get nodes
What you see: a Ready node (or more if you created a multi-node kind config). Delete later with kind delete cluster --name badge-api when the lab ends to free Docker resources.
Ravindra Bagale's Tip
Purane kind clusters + images — laptop disk bharato. Lab shevti kind delete cluster habit. Dhyan rakho!
