Chapter 7: Docker Volumes, Networks and Compose

7.9 Day-in-the-life: peak traffic mental model

Before the lab, walk the story once:

  1. Customer hits host shop counter 8080 (published API).
  2. API talks to db:5432 on the private Compose network — no public DB counter.
  3. Postgres writes into named volume badge-api_pgdata.
  4. You restart the stack after class; menus remain because the volume remained.

If any step is unclear, re-read networks (7.3) and volumes (7.2) before coding.
